The Acro-Bands, a group of acrobats from Waikikome, made history at the 2014 Hawaiian Music Festival.
Their debut performance, a three-song set titled “Acrobatic Suite,” earned a lifetime achievement award from the Hawaiian Music Foundation and was streamed over 100 million times.
The following year, the group released their sophomore album, “Acro Acrobata,” and went on to record their first album with fellow Hawaiian band, The Wailers, which was released this year.
The group recently made a triumphant return to the stage at the 2018 Hawaiʻi Music Festival with a two-song performance of their debut.
The group began in 2014 as a small band in the Kaimai Theater, a theater in Honolulu’s Kaimahi neighborhood.
They played their first show in 2015 in front of thousands of people.
Then, in 2016, they joined forces with the Kamehameha Schools Music Festival to record an album titled “Waikiki Acrobacy.”
The band released its debut album, Acrobic Suite, in 2017.
Since its debut, the Acro Acro Band has toured extensively in the United States and Europe, playing shows all over the world, including in Canada, Germany, Spain, England, Norway, France, Italy, Greece, the United Arab Emirates, Russia, Japan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and more.
The band is currently on tour in Japan and has announced plans to tour in South Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, and the Philippines in early 2018.
The Acro acrobat troupe has also had several international tours.
The troupe performed a three song set at the 2019 Hawaii Music Festival and also performed at the 2017 Hawaiian Music Expo in Honolulu.
The 2018 Hawaiian Music Festivals also featured a performance by the Acrobators, which included the performing of “Acrobatics,” the first song on their first EP, “Waiki Acrobatics.”
The Acrobator troupe was featured in the movie, “The Acrobat,” a comedy by director Matt Damon and co-star Adam Sandler, which won the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and was released in theaters across the United Kingdom.
The troupe toured the world and has performed at festivals and concerts in the U.K., France, Australia, Germany and Sweden.
The Acrobat has released three albums, including “Waikele” (2017), “Wailea” (2018), and “Waipu’a”/ “Waipee” (2019).
The group was nominated for a 2018 Kameha Music Festival Grand Jury Award for Best New Artist.
The band has also performed in the film, “Kaleidoscope,” a film based on the Kaleidoscopic Theatre series.
The film, which premiered at the Hawaii Film Festival in 2018, is directed by David Levett.
