How to get Chinese acrobats to sing for you

By MANDEL NGANON | The Associated PressWASHINGTON (AP) The best-known acrobat in China, who’s won more than 200 awards, will play at the 2017 International Acrobatic Show in Washington this weekend.

But the Chinese acrobat who’s also the world’s best-selling artist has a history of turning up at shows to perform his solo shows, often with little or no rehearsal.

And so far, there’s no sign that Zhang Ziyi will be joining the cast.

Zhang, who has performed with the Chinese troupe “Xianggang,” will play a solo concert for the first time at the annual event, which starts Sunday in downtown Washington.

He’ll be joined by fellow Chinese acropathons Liu Xiaobo and Zhu Weiqiang.

The event will run from Feb. 21-25 in downtown D.C.

Zhu and Liu will be joined in the first act by the world-famous Beijing-based Chinese dance troupe Zhang Zaiyuan.

The duo has won six Chinese competitions, including the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2014 Asian Games.

Ziyi’s acrobacy troupe has performed at the International Acrobatics Festival and the Acrobatics Festival Asia in Beijing, Japan, and the 2015 World Acrobats Competition in Moscow, Russia.

The event also will feature the Chinese dancers who have become household names in China.

Zhang, the eldest son of a former Chinese president and one of the most popular dancers in China’s booming dance industry, won a bronze medal at the 2016 Asian Games for his performance at the Chinese Taipei Games.

He’s won a record nine gold medals in international competitions, and is widely considered one of China’s most promising young performers.

The Beijing-born Zhang, who is also known for his solo performances in Taiwan, has appeared in at least five international films, including “The Last Day of Summer” and “The Lady in the Water.”
